2010: The year of…
…iPhone?BlackBerry? Htc? Will it be a close call or is there an obvious number 1 in the rankings for 2010. Typhone.nl, the largest online telecomshop from the Netherlands, yearly conducts research on their sales figures of the year. This results in a top 10 of the most sold mobile phones of 2010. Looking at their list we can state that 2010 was without a doubt the year of The Smartphone.
Typhone.nl’s top 10 best sold mobile phones clearly show that the sales figures of smartphones have increased rapidly over the last year. Every phone on their list has the capability to use the internet, send and/or receive e-mail and has integrated social media applications for Facebook and Twitter. Some phones have more features and are more advanced than the others, but they are all fancy and versatile.
iPhone wins again
just as in 2008 and 2009 Apple takes the first place in the top 10 best sold mobile phones with its immensely popular iPhone. This year the 4th generation of the iPhone was introduced and just as the previous iPhone’s it was an immediate success. In two days time more than 10.000 iPhone 4′s were sold in the Netherlands alone and in the rest of the world sales also went through the roof. The enormous sales figures resulted in Apple be becoming one of the largest smartphone producers in the World.
With the introduction of the iPhone 4 in June 2010 Apple stated that they had “reinvented the iPhone”. The new device was thinner and had a completely new design. The iPhone 4 also had a better battery which resulted in 2 hours more talk time and 10 hours longer music play. Next to that the iPhone 4 had breath taking Retina display, 5 megapixel camera, a super fast 1GHz processor and the new iOS 4 which supported multitasking. These were more than enough reasons Apple fan boys to replace their old 3GS for a new iPhone 4.
Striking tenth place
Quite interesting is the 10th place in the top 10 mobile phones. This positions is, against all odds, taken by the Samsung S7070. The Samsung S7070, also called the Samsung Diva, is a ladysmartphone with a special design. Compared to the other 9 phones in the top 10 the Diva is a relatively simple device with modest functions and features, because of that the phone is available for a cheap price. Whether it was the cheap price or the distinctive design, the high sales figures of the Samsung Diva might predict the comeback of the “ladyphone” according to the online telecomshop.
The Samsung Diva is thé phone for the fashion conscious women with its embossed quilted back cover and the smoky crystal diamond button on the front. The device is equipped with a touchscreen, digital camera, e-mail capabilities and the integration of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The Samsung S7070 is thus a ideal phone for a woman who like simplicity, but wants a phone that keeps up with her fashionista wardrobe and diva attitude.
Besides the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Diva the top 10 list is mainly reserved for phones from BlackBerry, HTC and Nokia. Samsung managed to get a good second place with her high-end Samsung Galaxy S. Curious about all the rankings? Check: GSM top 10
